Thoro Teaches Students About Recycling, Trees, and Renewable Resources

4th & 5th Graders at Carden Arbor View School celebrate TICCITUpland, CA—On April 26, 2018, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students and teachers at Carden Arbor View School in Upland adopted a tree to plant in honor of Earth Day (April 22) and Arbor Day (April 29), as part of the Paperboard Packaging Council’s TICCIT® Program (“Trees Into Cartons, Cartons Into Trees”). TICCIT is an educational program that highlights the biodegradability and recyclability of paper-based packaging.

Staff from Thoro Packaging, a Corona-based packaging company, instructed students on the benefits of recycling, how paper is made, and the myriad reasons why trees are so important to the environment. They also introduced the students to the world of folding cartons (a.k.a. box making) and donated a young pine tree to be planted on school grounds and cared for by the students. Thoro Packaging Joins Autajon Group

We are pleased to announce that on February 1st 2018, a major change occurred in the life of Thoro Packaging. To become an even stronger supplier in the future, Thoro Packaging made the decision to join the Autajon Group, which acquired 100% of the Thoro shares.

The Autajon Group is an independent family-owned business headquartered in France, with 37 plants manufacturing labels, folding cartons and rigid boxes in Europe, Asia and the US. Autajon is already very present on the East Coast with two folding carton plants; Cultech in South Plainfield, NJ joined the Group in 2006 and AP Boston in Nashua, NH in 2014. These state-of-the-art facilities serve various industries including Perfume & Cosmetics, Confectionary, Medical & Pharmaceutical, and Wine & Spirits. With the addition of Thoro, the Autajon Group strategically expands to the West Coast, growing its reach throughout the North American folding carton market.

Thoro wins Folding Carton of the Year at PPC Carton Competition

Every fall, the North American Paperboard Packaging Competition showcases the most unique and beautiful packaging designs, and this year’s entries were more exceptional than ever. The competition was great, but Thoro Packaging was awarded the Folding Carton of the Year for the Lancer Skincare – Legacy Youth Treatment carton.  At the awards dinner and ceremony hosted by the Paperboard Packaging Council on Thursday, October 5 in Scottsdale, Arizona, Thoro walked away with 4 awards including the coveted Folding Carton of the year.

Inland Empire Spirit of the Entrepreneur Finalists Announced

The Inland Empire Center for Entrepreneurship (IECE) at Cal State San Bernardino announced the finalists for this year’s Spirit of the Entrepreneur Awards program. 27 entrepreneurs were selected from a pool of nearly 200 nominees. The 32 semi-finalists participated in a reception on September 28 sponsored by RP&B CPAs, where they interacted with the event judges. Immediately following the reception, the judges convened to select the finalists. The finalists for the event will compete for the Spirit of the Entrepreneur award in eight (8) different categories at the 15th annual awards black-tie gala on November 14 at the Riverside Convention Center. Winners will be announced at the event.

Janet Steiner, President of Thoro Packaging, is among the esteemed group of finalists in the Family Business category. “As an active member of the local business community, I could not feel more honored to be finalist in the company of such as amazing group of entrepreneurs,” commented Steiner. The Future of Packaging Design

April 7, 2016 – Irvine, California

The Future of Packaging is here and it is BRILLIANT! On Thursday, April 7 attendees of The Future of Packaging Design event got a look at what is new in packaging, and what the future holds for packaging designers. Innovation, technology, and color were the themes among presenters. A whole new realm of possibilities for packaging design has opened up thanks to the technology advancements presented. Fittingly, the event was held at the Eureka Building, a 3-acre technology campus in Irvine, California designed to help accelerate innovation.

Keynote speaker Mike Ferrari took us on a journey through of the history of packaging. Next he showed real examples of where packaging is now, and then looked into the trends of the future. Mike brought great insights from the consumer product industry, from his successful 32-year career at The Procter & Gamble Company. Brand Packaging & Technology Summit 2016

March 17, 2016 – San Francisco

On St. Patrick’s Day, Thoro celebrated with Bay Area brands and graphic designers by all sporting green Esko lanyards at the Brand Packaging and Technology Conference at the Marriott Marquis in San Francisco. It was a day filled with great networking and insightful information on new innovations to help brands manage their packaging design process, and expand design possibilities. Brands received a complete look at solutions to innovate, design and execute packaging.

Esko kicked off the event by breaking down the packaging design process, and highlighting tools that can help brands manage this process with more efficiency. From structural design and right-size packaging, to 3D renderings, brands learned how they can have more control and visibility in packaging design. Ways to streamline communication and collaborate on packaging design were showcased using WebCenter. The demonstration of Studio offered brands a chance to see their packaging designs in an interactive, virtual retail store.

Communicating Sustainability to Consumers

Sustainability is no longer an optional focus for brands, it is now a necessity to stay competitive. Consumers expect brands to place the environment and being “green” as a top priority, just as consumers do in their daily lives. There are recycling cans everywhere, more people choosing hybrid and electric vehicles, solar power has become more accessible and plastic bag bans are in effect in major cities. Green is no longer a trendy thing, it is a way of life.

Many brands have had sustainability programs for years, but communicating these initiatives to consumers has been a challenge. Consumers are skeptical. Corporate sustainability programs can sometimes come across as lacking authenticity, messages are not always clear or lack validation, and often these messages never reach the consumer at all. What better place to communicate sustainability than right on the package that the sits on the store shelf and goes home with the consumer.
