Thoro Packaging Honored to be 2011 Spirit Award Finalist

teamthoro_spiritThe Spirit of the Entrepreneur Awards program recognizes and celebrates the accomplishments of the Inland Empire’s top entrepreneurial business leaders. And this year, Thoro was nominated and one of three finalist for the coveted award in the Manufacturing category.  Below is the official video for the 2011 Manufacturing finalists.

At the black tie award ceremony on November 8th in downtown Riverside, Jan and Macy Steiner along with a select group of Thoro employees, enjoyed a lovely dinner and program featuring the many accomplishments of the business award finalists.

PPC Packaging Competition

ppcphotoThoro picked-up three awards last night. To General Excellence Awards for our 2011 Thoro WestPac Gold Compact promotional and Island Soap & Candle Company family boxes. We also won a Gold Award for the 2010 Thoro Christmas Candy Box promotional. Way to go Team Thoro and Island Soap & Candle!

Thoro has once again taken home a Gold and a few Silver (Excellence) Awards in the Paperboard Packaging Council’s (PPC) annual Carton Competition. The National Paperboard Packaging Competition is the premier competition for carton manufacturers involved in the concept, design, print, performance, and shelf appeal of paperboard packaging. The 117 entries were judged by a jury of packaging professionals, industry experts, professors, and magazine publishers. All entries are weighted evenly, with the names of manufacturers unknown to the jury. Jury members evaluated package samples and their accompanying write-ups to select this year’s award winners. Congratulations Team Thoro on Another Great Year!

On Tuesday, Thoro Celebrated our successful 2011 fiscal business year (ending September 30th). Thoro had another great year with record sales, great quality and customer service scores and an outstanding safety record. We celebrated the accomplishment by recognizing our terrific suppliers, new equipment and investments in 2011, team bonus hours and of course we want to shout out a BIG thank you to all of our customers. Bringing the team together we can recognize all of our accomplishments and look forward to more ground-breaking success in 2012.

Halloween Celebration at Thoro

We are a good team and Thoro, and every good team has traditions. At Thoro we have fun every year with our Halloween Costume contest and plant parade. We have a lot of talented and creative people working at Thoro; in fact one of our team members with a flair for costume design makes me a wonderfully elaborate ensemble every year. This year I was Scarlett O’Hara (Thank you Jerry!).

The Paperboard Packaging Council Chooses Thoro Cartons to Display at Pack Expo 2011

As a long standing member of the Paperboard Packaging Council, Thoro takes great pride in sharing the following news. With very limited space, the PPC choose to display two of our cartons in their booth at Pack Expo 2011, Twilight Cosmetics and our 2009 Holiday Promotional. If you were at Pack Expo 2011 in Las Vegas and saw our cartons on display, please send us an email at sales@thoropkg.com. We would love to hear from you. The Paperboard Packaging Council serves the $8.8 billion industry that prints images on paper-based substrates which are then converted into commercial packaging. Their members encompass approximately 80% of all paper-based packaging manufactured in the United States.

Thoro Design Featured in September Package Design Mag

Thank you to the PPC for selecting one of Thoro Packaging’s unique structural designs for the medical pharmaceutical industry, to be featured in a special 8 year retrospective of past PPC Award winners. We were not only proud to have been recognized by the PPC for our package redesign, but also pleased that we were able to provide our customer with improved performance and a more cost effective solution.

Jan Steiner, Panel Member at National Association of Purchasing Management

I am so honored to have the opportunity to be a panel member at the National Association of Purchasing Management in Orange County. Their September Dinner Meeting and event is tonight, September 15th, from 4:30 to 8:30 pm.

The program topic is “Negotiating from Both Sides of the Table” Customer and Supplier Views on Negotiation. Panel members will respond to prepared questions provided to them in advance and respond to questions posed by the audience.

This is sure to be an interesting and informative session as seasoned professionals join me to share their experiences and observations regarding negotiation from both sides of the table!
