July 4, 2014 marks the 238th anniversary of the United States. Historians have long disagreed whether the Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4, even though Thomas Jefferson, John Adams and Benjamin Franklin all later wrote that they had signed it on that day.
The date of the signing doesn’t really matter. The importance of the day is that thirteen colonies resisted the greatest power on Earth in their Declaration of Independence. Gratefully, that spirit of liberty and absolute dedication to freedom is still celebrated 238 years later.
