Planting a Tree…Hawaiian Legacy Reforestation Initiative

Thoro Packaging President, Jan Steiner recently took a trip to Hawaii. During her stay, she paid a visit to the Hawaiian Legacy Reforestation Initiative. In keeping with the legacy that was started by Jan’s father and Thoro founder, Macy Dabek, Jan planted a koa tree in his memory.

The Hawaiian Legacy Reforestation Initiativeis planting a native forest on Hawaii Island. Located on the slopes of Mauna Kea, this historic site was once a majestic koa forest and the personal property of King Kamehameha. Koa Tree Jan and Jackie

Hawaii’s Koa tree is a much beloved and respected native tree which grows only in Hawaii.  For centuries Hawaiians have traditionally used the koa tree and its wood extensively to make objects ranging from canoes to personal ornaments.  Its exquisite grain and endlessly varying colors make it one of the world’s most prized and expensive woods.  Unfortunately, much of its native range has been converted to other uses, primarily grazing.

Thoro Packaging’s partnership with natureOffice provides all of our customers with the opportunity to buy carbon offsets from Hawaiian Legacy Hardwoods to reduce the effect of their carbon footprint.

You can plant a tree today and give the gift of a living legacy by sponsoring a Koa tree at http://www.legacytrees.org/.
