Thoro Teaches Students About Recycling, Trees, and Renewable Resources

4th & 5th Graders at Carden Arbor View School celebrate TICCITUpland, CA—On April 26, 2018, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students and teachers at Carden Arbor View School in Upland adopted a tree to plant in honor of Earth Day (April 22) and Arbor Day (April 29), as part of the Paperboard Packaging Council’s TICCIT® Program (“Trees Into Cartons, Cartons Into Trees”). TICCIT is an educational program that highlights the biodegradability and recyclability of paper-based packaging.

Staff from Thoro Packaging, a Corona-based packaging company, instructed students on the benefits of recycling, how paper is made, and the myriad reasons why trees are so important to the environment. They also introduced the students to the world of folding cartons (a.k.a. box making) and donated a young pine tree to be planted on school grounds and cared for by the students. Already avid recyclers, the students are very enthusiastic about making our planet a better place. Some students shared stories of how they spent Earth Day picking […]

The Meaning of Green

The Irish holiday is always celebrated on March 17th, which is the day that Saint Patrick died. He was a missionary way back in the 4th century. His real name is believed to be Maewyn Succat. He took the name Patrick after he became a priest.

Saint Patrick’s Day has changed considerably since the 4th century. Leprechauns, green clothing, green drinks, green everything. Why you ask? Green is the color of Ireland and springtime. Green is featured in the Irish flag, it’s the color of shamrocks, and Ireland’s nickname is the “Emerald Isle.” There isn’t really just one reason why green is the official color of Saint Patrick’s Day.

If green is your favorite color it says a lot about your personality. Green is the color of balance and harmony. From a color psychology viewpoint, it steadies the heart and emotions, and creates a balance between the brain and the heart. Green is an emotionally optimistic color, providing us with feelings of nurturing and love. Green is a natural peacemaker.

If you choose green as the primary color […]

Communicating Sustainability to Consumers

Sustainability is no longer an optional focus for brands, it is now a necessity to stay competitive. Consumers expect brands to place the environment and being “green” as a top priority, just as consumers do in their daily lives. There are recycling cans everywhere, more people choosing hybrid and electric vehicles, solar power has become more accessible and plastic bag bans are in effect in major cities. Green is no longer a trendy thing, it is a way of life.

Many brands have had sustainability programs for years, but communicating these initiatives to consumers has been a challenge. Consumers are skeptical. Corporate sustainability programs can sometimes come across as lacking authenticity, messages are not always clear or lack validation, and often these messages never reach the consumer at all. What better place to communicate sustainability than right on the package that the sits on the store shelf and goes home with the consumer. Put the information in their hands, and make it about what impacts the consumer and the environment.

With so many sustainable packaging options, messages […]

The Power of Printed Sleeves

Tailor your ordinary folding carton packaging with custom printed paperboard sleeves.  A custom printed sleeve is a packaging addition that can partially or entirely cover your cartons or products while allowing you the ability to add branding and information that will visually attract your customers.

Enhancing your cartons with sleeves can customize your packaging, provide added branding, allow you to change your packaging design per season or promotion, or add some extra bling.

A paperboard sleeve can be a cost effective packaging solution which allows the product to be viewed from the sides or from the top and bottom. Sleeves are regularly used for high end cosmetics, personal care, custom medical device boxes, and software products.

Don’t get stuck in a rut with a straight line sleeve. Thoro Packaging has the technology to create custom, unique shaped sleeves and bring a distinctive look to your folding cartons.

The addition of cutouts on sleeves allows your customers to see your logo on the carton or the contents of a clear container, showcasing your product. Die cuts can be used to […]

Remembering 911

Today, we honor and remember the survivors, those who were lost on September 11, 2001, and the valiant, courageous men and women that risked their lives to save others.

Today marks the 14th anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The memories of that day still cause immeasurable heartache to those who lost loved ones on that day. Near or far, we were all impacted in some way by this tragic event. We shall never forget.

Nurses Offer Tips for Medical Packaging Design

Nurses work long hours and are an intricate part of our health and wellbeing. They are also on the forefront of the medical devices that we use and the packaging they come in. So when a panel of nurses at HealthPack 2015 gave their feedback on medical device packaging, Thoro took notice. They had good comments and gave great advice regarding some of the changes that are needed. It is for these reasons; Thoro is re-posting in part, the following article from Healthcare Packaging, June 2015.

For years, HealthPack has presented a nurse’s panel, one of the most popular presentations every year. At Norfolk, nurses again gave very blunt feedback and attendees got to hear firsthand what does, and maybe more importantly, what does not, work when it comes to medical device packaging. The presentation comprised a panel of end users, mostly nurses who were […]

Ideas for Environmentally Friendly Packaging

With billions of tons of packaging waste occupying landfills across the world, corporations and their customers are looking for methods that make less of an impact on the planet. Environmentally friendly paperboard packaging is the best choice for so many reasons.

Thoro Packaging has taken all of the work out of searching for environmentally friendly packaging solutions and passing our knowledge on to you. Following are ways to incorporate materials and construction methods that make less of an impact on the planet.

Use recyclable materials. All paperboard grades and calipers are recyclable. If you’re not sure which material will meet your needs, we can help. Both virgin and recycled paperboard come in a variety of calipers and can be adapted to your packaging with ease.

Let your customers know it’s about printing too. Custom mixed vegetable based inks that are mixed onsite, prevent unnecessary waste. They avoid the use of petroleum, and release less volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the environment. This makes an overall cleaner quality of air for all of us. The vegetable and low VOC logos […]

We Love Healthcare Packaging…

Designing and developing healthcare products are a complex and intricate task and must be the main focus of the manufacturer. Therefore, when forming a team to rely on for secondary components—such as folding carton packaging—companies need to ensure they partner with an experienced, qualified company. Healthcare product manufacturers need packaging that serves an array of functions from product protection to enhancement of a product’s visibility and the company’s corporate image.

It is critical to create packaging that meets the specific needs of healthcare products, this includes meeting time constraints, innovation and value added services. Following are standards that can assist healthcare product manufacturers in finding the right company to partner with to fulfill their folding carton requirements.

  •  Choose a folding carton manufacturer with numerous capabilities under one roof. Choose a company that has a team of experts to assist you in choosing the best material, or combination of materials, and structure for your product.
  • The folding carton manufacturer should demonstrate an expertise in die cutting, machine filled cartons, covert and overt security features including security inks, color shifting inks, […]
