The future, it’s often something that gets over looked. It’s not that we choose to overlook it; we are just so involved in the present that it is often forgotten by our daily routine. It’s only natural for the world to focus on the present rather than focus on what is to come. The sad truth is we have adopted this same ideology and belief to the current status of our planet. The earth has been experiencing extreme levels of climate change, and educating ourselves on this matter is the first step to progress.
The Cold Hard Facts
Let’s face it no one likes to hear bad news, but the reality is the world is changing. According to NASA’s website, since 2001 the Earth has experienced the warmest years on record. The changes in the atmosphere are a direct correlation to the increased amount of carbon emissions being released into the atmosphere. Another notable change is the increased rise in the sea levels. NASA notes that sea levels have risen about 8 inches in the last century; however, in the last two decades the sea level increase has nearly doubled that of the last century.
The information above can be startling, but it’s important to know that it is never too late to a make a difference. The sooner we get involved and decide to help preserve the Earth the better off we will be.
Together we can make a difference
As mentioned previously, education is the first step to progress and we believe education should start early. Every year, Thoro participates in TICCIT® (which stands for “Trees into Cartons, Cartons into Tress”) an outreach and educational program for school-aged children. This program educates kids on the life cycle of trees, the importance of recycling, and the impact they can make on the environment. Students are given tree saplings from the Arbor Day Foundation to plant, and experience the growth of their tree’s first hand.
With Earth Day behind us, Arbor Day is soon approaching and it’s important to raise awareness for the programs that value and promote the conservation of this world. The Arbor Day Foundation is a nonprofit conservation organization dedicated to planting trees around the world. Visit the Arbor Day Foundation website for more information.
This year, let’s make a change and pledge to recycle, use less water, and plant trees. Remember, we live in a beautiful world and it’s our job to keep it that way.
